Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is finally coming this June, and its new trailer may have just revealed how players will be able to access the new expansion.
This upcoming expansion was announced back in February last year. The wait may have been long, but it seems to be worth it as the trailer revealed that the DLC will be massive in scale as it will feature a brand-new location, along with a ton of new abilities and enemies.
Moreover, the trailer also confirmed that Miquella will be a major character in this DLC. This makes sense given that Miquella is a key figure in Elden Ring lore even though he did not exactly appear in the main game.
If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out the trailer here:
Near the end of the DLC, a character (which might be Miquella himself) mentions seemingly tells the player to “touch the withered arm, and travel to the land of shadow.” As the expansion’s new setting is called the “Land of Shadow,” the voice pretty much spells out that the player must seek out and touch the withered arm.
Most Elden Ring players would probably already know what the withered arm is. For those who need a refresher, this is no doubt the arm that extends out of the cocoon that Mohg has in this palace which players see in the fight against him.
What adds more credence to this theory is that the trailer opens with a scene in Mohg’s palace where the player sees the cocoon.
This should mean that players will be able to access Shadow of the Erdtree by touching the withered arm (possibly of Miquella). Thus, accessing the DLC should also meant that players need to have beaten Mohg, Lord of Blood.
Compared to DLC like Bloodborne’s The Old Hunters, this way of accessing the DLC seems to be rather straightforward. Of course, players should expect a lot of surprises still when the expansion is launched.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on June 21, 2024. Pre-orders for the expansion are available now.
