Video games and basketball. Two things that you can never take away when it comes to talking about Filipino past times. Now, the two hobbies come together as a basketball court in Quezon City gets an official Call of Duty Warzone mobile makeover.
Warzone came at a time when gamers needed it the most. It was the peak of the pandemic lockdown, and everyone was just stuck at home, looking for something to do with friends. A free-to-play battle royale was something that people didn’t expect from the Call of Duty franchise at the time but when it dropped, it broke record after record in terms of player counts and content viewership.
4 years after its release, Activision brought back the iconic Verdansk map, Rebirth Island, and a fully functional 6v6 multiplayer experience to smartphones with Call of Duty Warzone Mobile.
As part of their ongoing efforts to further tap into the gaming community in the Philippines, Activision has partnered up with local artist, muralist, and illustrator, Jappy Agoncillo and Honeycomb Arts to give the SV Ball Park at New Manila, Quezon City a new Call of Duty Warzone Mobile look.
“I’ve worked on massive walls, sides of buildings, and even restaurants but what is exciting about this project is that it’s not just something to look at. It’s something to experience.” Agoncillo says in an interview feature posted on the official Call of Duty Warzone Mobile Philippines Facebook page.
Some of you might remember Agoncillo from the God of War Ragnarok mural he did at Bonifacio Global City to celebrate the game’s launch in the Philippines.
As a proud gamer himself, he continues to bridge the gap between his hobbies and his professional passion to provide some of the best gaming art we’ve seen done on location.
The Call of Duty Warzone Mobile basketball court takeover is at SV Ball Park, New Manila, Quezon City. You can visit and play at the court during Friday-Sunday around 1-5PM for the best times to avoid schedule conflicts with ongoing local league games. It’ll be available from May to July 1, 2024.
