As fans eagerly await the series, Max announced that the popular Indian star Tabu is joining the cast of Dune: Prophecy as Sister Francesca.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Tabu is one of India’s most popular actresses right now. She has won numerous awards in her home country, and has starred in both Indian and international productions. For instance, Tabu played roles in the BBC miniseries A Suitable Boy, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, and The Namesake from Fox Searchlight.
For the upcoming Dune series, Tabu will play Sister Francesca who is formerly a great love of the Emperor.
Tabu joins the Dune: Prophecy series’ star-studded cast which includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Johdi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, and Shalom Brune-Franklin.
As for the series itself, Dune: Prophecy is a prequel of the Dune (2021) movie, and it’s set 10,000 years before that film. Its premise is described as:
“Set within the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel Sisterhood Of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.”
For now, there’s no word yet on a release date for Dune: Prophecy, but what is known is that it will be released on Max in late 2024. It’s expected to also be released later this year on HBO GO.
