Evil Empire, the studio behind the excellent Dead Cells, is having their own take on Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia franchise! The Rogue Prince of Persia is a 2D rougelite action-platformer and is now available in Early Access on Steam. As an added bonus, the game will be 10% off for the first 24 hours. If you have GeForce Now, you can also try out the game for yourself.
The Rogue Prince of Persia Early Access’s playable content will include 6 biomes, 8 main weapons and 6 powerful tools, 2 boss encounters, as well as 30 trinkets. Plenty enough to experiment with and suit any playstyle.
Leading up to the full 1.0 launch, players can expect even more content such as new levels, boss fights, weapons, enemies, upgrades, and so much more. Community feedback is also being closely tracked by the developers and should any prominent requests pop up, they’ll be highly considered to be placed in the game. This Early Access release is meant to be a collaborative effort between Evil Empire and the players themselves.
“I am extremely excited to show The Rogue Prince of Persia to the players, and I’m really looking forward to the game becoming not just ours, but a project between us and the community!” says Lucie Dewagnier, Game Director at Evil Empire.
Taking the Dead Cells formula and fusing it with the Prince of Persia franchise sounds like a great recipe. Especially after the fantastic Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown earlier this year. While waiting for the full remake, Ubisoft letting other studios cook with action platformers has been paying off well so far.
Early reviews do mention how fun the game is and how gorgeous its animations and visuals are. The game also boasts an excellent soundtrack, heavily inspired by Persian folklore, all originally produced and composed by Persian-American Electronic Music Producer and Performance Artist, ASADI.
