realme GT 6 Impressions | A Promising Affordable Flagship

Fresh after launching the wallet-friendly C65, realme is now gearing up for the release of the GT 6 which is essentially the brand’s new flagship.

The realme GT series is effectively the brand’s flagship series, though not all GT phones have been launched in the Philippines. Typically, realme only launches its numbered series in the country.

Now though, the GT 6 is gearing up for a global launch this week, and it will also get a PH release. Ahead of its launch, we got our hands on a unit, and while we’re still testing it out for a full review, we already have some impressions based on our initial time with it.

While the GT 6 is billed as realme’s next flagship, it’s technically more of a flasghip-killer or upper-midrange device. That’s because it’s powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. This may seem like the top-of-the-line Qualcomm SoC, but the 8s Gen 3 is more like an upper-midrange chipset, with performance closer to that of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Gen 2.

The 8s Gen 3 should still pack plenty of power for everyday use and gaming. In fact, in our initial hands-on time with it, the phone ran todays’ popular games with ease (though we’re still testing that out for our full review).

It also helps that the phone has 12GB of RAM, at least that’s what the unit we’re testing comes with. Still, that should be plenty for most users.

Its display is more of a proper flagship though as it packs a large 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with curved edges. This screen is also billed by realme as a 6,000-nit Ultra Bright LTPO display, meaning it should be bright enough to use even when outdoors in bright sunlight.

From our time with it, this claim is quite accurate as the screen gets plenty bright even while outdoors. It should also be a good partner for binge-watching movies and shows thanks to the AMOLED panel.

Moving on to the cameras, the phone has a triple rear shooter setup with two 50MP cameras and an 8MP shooter. The main camera is 50MP while the ultrawide is 8MP, but we’re not sure if the other 50MP is a telephoto shooter, so we still have to wait and see what the third camera is exactly during the launch.

We were able to test out the cameras a bit and the initial photos look promising. What’s more, the phone has AI camera features such as a smart eraser which should be a plus for users. As a bonus, the branding near the camera module indicates that the main shooter has OIS, meaning it should be stable for videos and great for capturing low-light photos with the night mode.

Another interesting thing about the GT 6 is its battery. To be exact, the phone has a large 5,500mAh battery which is promising as it should give the phone all-day battery life (though that depends on each user of course).

Plus, the phone has a 120W fast charging feature which is blazing-fast, to the point that it should charge faster than many flagships that are priced at over PHP 50k.

Based on its specs along with our initial hands-on time with it, the realme GT 6 has all the makings of a flagship-killer in a sense that it should offer a premium experience without having to shell out over PHP 50k.

Of course, that’s assuming the phone will be more affordable than many other flagships. As such, the pricing of this phone will be key as if it’s priced just right, it will definitely be a tempting option for users who want a premium smartphone upgrade.
