All You Need to Know About Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Godhood Awaits. Go and Claim It.

You are a third-year student at Jouin High School, whose peaceful life is torn asunder. After a tunnel collapse, you are thrust into Da’at: a ravaged version of Tokyo where demons run rampant. You become an unholy being—a Nahobino—by fusing with a mysterious man known as Aogami and find yourself in the middle of a battle between mythical deities and the demonic forces.

Revenge Awaits

As demons attack mankind and plunge the world into chaos, Bethel, an organization lead by angels, rises up against them. While navigating the mysterious realm of Da’at, the protagonist has a life-changing encounter with Yoko Hiromine. With magic at their disposal, they soon find themselves on the front line of battle. However, the Qadištu—a faction of four demons—stands in their way.

“And so we have found it… The key to the resurrection…”

Lilith, one of the Qadištu, proclaims herself a “Fallen One” and calls the protagonist “the key to the resurrection.” What is she scheming? The tale of the Fallen Ones’ vengeance begins…

The Fallen Ones: The Qadištu

“I, Lilith of the Qadištu, shall return the world to its true form.”

Four demons who confront the protagonist in the Canon of Vengeance route. These new foes will give rise to a new creation myth.

Meet the Characters

Protagonist / Nahobino

A third-year high school student from the city who enjoys reading. After getting caught in a tunnel collapse on the way home from school, he finds himself lost in an alternate desert version of Tokyo; Da’at. He fuses with Aogami and transforms into a Nahobino—a being with supernatural powers that can fend off demons. In his Nahobino form, he controls the body while Aogami gives him guidance.

Yoko Hiromine (Voiced By Chiwa Saito)

“When trapped in a cycle… victims of abuse only want one thing. They want to take revenge.”

A third-year student at St. Marina Girls’ High School with a cool demeanor and an aura of mystery.

After meeting her in Da’at, she becomes one of the protagonist’s allies and fights alongside him in battle. Some refer to her as a “Saint” because of the miraculous powers she has long possessed. Her school recognizes her abilities and trains her in magic to vanquish demons.

Partner Up With New Demons!

Nahobeeho

A Jack Frost who looks like a certain Nahobino, making his debut as a demon in Shin Megami Tensei: Vengeance. He likes snowy mornings, and by his own words, aims to create a world of silver.

Amabie

A Japanese yokai said to have appeared in the Higo Province during the Edo period. It was spotted as a glowing object in the sea and made a prophecy to those who investigated it.

New Location: Da’at Shinjuku

The story unfolds in real-world Tokyo and Da’at, a vast, decimated Tokyo where demons reign supreme, ruthlessly attacking anyone that dares oppose them.

Explore a variety of areas, including ruined buildings, dunes, and mysterious structures. Each area varies in size, demons, and obstacles.

In the Canon of Vengeance, you’ll be able to visit the new Shinjuku area.

New Gameplay Features

The series’ simple but rewarding turn-based Press Turn Combat system is back, with new skills and gameplay elements. Turn the tides of battle in your favor by targeting your enemy’s weaknesses to gain extra actions before your enemies do!

Magatsuhi Skills

Your Magatsuhi Gauge fills up throughout the course of battle. Once the gauge is full, you’ll be able to trigger special abilities known as Magatsuhi Skills. From dealing heavy damage to healing and buffing your party, there are now over 50 Magatsuhi Skills to leverage, including more than 20 newly added abilities that are exclusive to certain types of demons. What’s more, allies who share the same alignments will give you access to even more abilities.

Innate Skills

All demons now possess innate skills, passive skills that give you an extra edge in battle. Some may power up your attacks, strengthen certain demons, and even aid you when negotiating with demons! These innate skills add an extra layer of strategy to the way you assemble your party.

Blessed Melody: Increases damage when striking a Light weakness for all allies.

Four Heavenly Kings: Raises all of your stats when a demon with Four Heavenly Kings is summoned.

Demonic Mediation: Patches up relations with a demon whose mood sours mid-negotiation.

Demon Conversations

Strike up conversations with your opponents and turn them into your demonic allies!

Each demon has unique speech patterns and preferences – Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance adds even more to create even livelier interactions.

Skilled negotiators will be able to navigate their way through any conversation and find strong allies. In some negotiations, there’s a chance that the demons in your party will join in.

You’ll need to wait and see what happens in these special demon-to-demon conversations. Some demons might even test your knowledge with a quiz!

Guest Characters

As the story progresses, human characters may participate as allies in battle. These characters can fight like demon allies, as well as use items. Make use of the different strengths human allies and demon allies provide to gain the advantage in battle. Ichiro and Yuzuru can use the demon summoning program to add even more allies to your side, including their own demon partners.

Consecutive Encounters

After defeating an enemy, another demon may appear to continue the battle. This fight will become tougher than usual, but winning will grant you additional Macca and EXP, as well as a higher likelihood of items dropping. Consecutive encounters are more likely to occur when fighting in areas where many enemy demons are gathered. Stay vigilant if you want to avoid them – or use this to your advantage.
