Deadpool & Wolverine has made a big splash at the global box office, and that’s also the case in the Philippines as Marvel’s latest film topped during the weekend.
According to data on BoxOfficeMojo, the third Deadpool movie earned USD 3,152,367 (around PHP 184.6 million) during its first five days from July 24 to 28, 2024. Thanks to this, the film got the second-biggest opening week box office in the country this year, trailing only Disney’s mega-hit Inside Out 2 based on data from the site.
Of course, BoxOfficeMojo’s numbers don’t include all movies in the country as it generally only includes big Hollywood movies. Still, this record is impressive, especially considering that it has an R-16 rating in the Philippines.
What’s also impressive about its opening week box office haul is that it is bigger than the other Marvel movies from 2023. You’ll need to go back to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness two years ago to see a Marvel movie with bigger opening week numbers.
Aside from its box office success in the Philippines, Deadpool & Wolverine has also become a huge hit globally as the film already earned nearly USD 500 million worldwide as of this article’s writing. Given its initial box office numbers, there’s a big chance that this movie will reach USD 1 billion worldwide at some point.
In our review, we called the movie a love-letter to Marvel movies that fans will definitely enjoy. This, coupled with the fact that the film had a massive marketing campaign means its success isn’t too surprising. Still, its box office numbers are impressive given its age rating.
Deadpool & Wolverine is out now in cinemas across the world.
