Elden Ring finally fixes long-running fan complaint in Patch 1.13

It only took two and a half years before it got fixed.

A bit over a month after Patch 1.12, FromSoftware released Elden Ring Patch 1.13, and it fixes a long-running fan complaint regarding Torrent.

While there are a lot of changes, the highlight of the new patch for many players is no doubt the top point in the bug fixes category which states:

  • Changed the default selection of the OK / CANCEL prompt that shows up when using the “Spectral Steed Whistle” while the spectral steed is dead. The default selection position is now OK.

Previously, whenever Torrent died, a prompt was shown when you used the Spectral Steed Whistle again to revive him. On its own, the prompt is already annoying as pretty much every player understands that a flask charge will be consumed to revive Torrent. What made it doubly annoying is that it defaults to the “Cancel” option instead of “OK” which has led to many deaths for me and likely for many other players as well (especially when fighting enemies on horseback like the Furnace Golems).

Here’s what it looks like before when you use the Spectral Steed Whistle to revive Torrent.

While the prompt is still there, thankfully it now defaults to “OK” which should mean way fewer deaths for many players. Sadly though, prompts like “Somewhere, a heavy door has opened” seems to be unchanged. Hopefully this also gets fixed as the prompt being in the way has also resulted in many deaths for players.

Aside from this fix, the complete Patch 1.13 notes also details a bunch of other fixes and balance changes. Perhaps the biggest balance changes are the ones made to Spirit Ashes. Specifically, most of the Spirit Ashes have been improved so that they won’t stagger as easily. A selection of Spirit Ashes have also gotten physical attack and HP buffs. Hopefully this makes more Spirit Ashes as viable as the Mimic Tear.
