Announced back in 2022, the upcoming Rose of Versailles anime film by MAPPA just got a new trailer that revealed its Spring 2025 release and highlighted its cast.
The new trailer was published on the film’s official YouTube channel alongside a key visual shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account. Aside from showing off new clips, the trailer also lets fans hear the main voice cast as the Rose of Versailles’ iconic characters.
Given that the original anime aired back in 1979, this new movie features new cast members. Currently, the four confirmed voice actors in the movie include:
- Miyuki Sawashiro (Raiden Shogun in Genshin Impact) as Oscar Francois de Jarjayes
- Aya Hirano (Haruhi Suzumiya in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) as Marie Antoinette
- Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Hideyoshi Nagachika in Tokyo Ghoul) as Andre Grandier
- Kazuki Kato (Kamen Rider Drake in Kamen Rider Kabuto) as Hans Axel von Fersen

As for its story, this movie a new adaptation, meaning it should be accessible to anime fans who have not yet watched the original shojo anime classic.

Oscar François de Jarjeyes is a young noblewoman raised as a son by her father. As commander of Marie Antoinette’s palace guard, Oscar is brought face-to-face with the luxury of King Louis XVI’s court at Versailles. Joined by her servant André, Oscar is privy to the intrigue and deceit of France’s last great royal regime.
For now, the new Rose of Versailles film is set to be released in Spring 2025, though it may be released earlier in 2025 in Japan given that the Spring release window was mentioned in English. More release details will likely be shared in the coming months.
This is not the only project that MAPPA is working on right now as the studio is also producing new seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen and Hell’s Paradise, along with the Chainsaw Man movie.
