Ranma 1/2 anime remake gets first trailer and release date

Ranma 1/2 is back with a new anime, and it's coming later this year!

Following its initial reveal, the upcoming Ranma 1/2 remake anime finally got a new trailer along with an official release date.

Yes, the classic Ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi is getting a brand-new anime series, and from the looks of it, the show is a new adaptation making it essentially a remake or a reboot of the original TV anime by Studio Deen.

For this new anime, notable studio MAPPA (of Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen fame) is handling animation duties. Even though the studio is best known for its action-packed shonen titles, the new Ranma 1/2 trailer shows that the studio is staying true to the original manga’s art style, albeit with a cleaner and more modern look.

Along with the new trailer, it’s also confirmed that the remake will bring back members of the original anime’s voice cast. For now, the confirmed cast members include:

  • Megumi Hayashibara as Ranma (female)
  • Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendo
  • Minami Takayama as Nabiki Tendo
  • Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi Tendo
  • Koichi Yamadera as Ryoga Hibiki
  • Rei Sakuma as Shampoo

There will also be new cast members, including Akio Otsuka as Soun Tendo and Cho as Genma Saotome.

As for its release date, fans will be happy to know that the new Ranma 1/2 anime will be released on October 5, 2024. The show is confirmed to stream in Japan exclusively on Netflix, though there’s no word yet if Netflix will also stream the series internationally.

Along with Ranma 1/2, MAPPA is also working on another classic anime project – The Rose of Versailles.
