The realme C63 is the latest entry in the brand’s C series, bringing a combination of durability and reliability to their burgeoning roster. With its focus on overall toughness and longevity–inside out, this new smartphone aims to deliver a “Quality Champion Experience” while not breaking the bank.
Coming off the heels of the realme C65, users now have yet another budget-friendly option at an even lower price. This comes complete with the familiar reliability and compelling 48-month fluency rating. That being said, the C63 is a totally different beast–sporting a more rugged exterior that doesn’t take away from its stylish aesthetic.
Is the realme C63 the genuine article when it comes to affordable rough and tumble smartphones, or is it just another cog in the budget machine? We spilled a few drinks to find out.
Geek-sthetic
The realme C63 takes an interestingly refreshing step with a new Premium Vegan Leather finish for a C-series smartphone. Clad in its Leather Blue colorway, this unique texture not only provides a luxurious look but also offers practical benefits in terms of grip and resistance, fingerprints, and quite a bit of scratch resistance. The phone’s sleek design is complemented by its slim profile, making it comfortable to hold and use at only 7.7 mm thin and 189 grams heavy.
to achieve this ruggedly handsome finish, the realme C63 had to undergo rigorous testing, including a whopping 200,000 abrasion tests without scratching–all to showcase its durability. As for the display, you’re getting a large 6.75-inch screen with minimal bezels courtesy of an impressive 85.7% screen-to-body ratio. For a budget-tier phone, it’s nice to see those bezels getting slimmer. It’s a modern appearance, and we appreciate it.
You get the usual ports and buttons–one of which serves as a fingerprint scanner. Of course, we also have a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is always a welcome sight. As for what’s up top, we’ll touch base more on the camera setup later.
Binge-Watching Factor
The realme C63 boasts a 6.75-inch HD+ display with a 720 x 1600 pixel resolution. It’s a surprisingly decent screen that provides and adequate viewing experience. We don’t say this to dismiss it, as we’re actually glad that a more affordable device comes packed with a good display.
While the pixel density of about 260 ppi is modest, it should provide adequate clarity for most users–meaning those who aren’t too stingy with their shows. The large screen size can handle your video streams and overall multimedia consumption on the daily. If you set your expectations, you’ll be satisfied. While you don’t get any stereo speakers, the audio from the 200% UltraBoom Speaker is loud and clear enough.
The display is TÜV Rheinland certified for low blue light emissions, ensuring your eyes remain well-rested during extended viewing sessions. The 90Hz refresh rate helps quite a bit when it comes to browsing and navigating through apps. It’s not as buttery smooth as your upper midrangers and flagships, but it’s not laggy–not by a longshot.
Gaming Prowess
Now, here’s where your expectations need to be managed quite a bit more. You really need to tinker with your settings should you decide to dive into Hoyoverse territory. Powered by the Unisoc Tiger T612 (12 nm) processor and Mali-G57 GPU, the realme C63 does offers decent performance for a majority of the games you’ll likely be running. From the usual MLBB to the brand new HoK, you won’t have any problems–even if you crank up the graphics.
However, once you decide to install Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, or any similar game, you’ll need to lower those settings pronto. Even then, you’ll experience a few jitters and stutters once there’s too much activity on-screen. It’s not a dealbreaker, and it’s more or less expected at its price range.
The phone runs on Android 14 with Realme UI 5.0, providing a modern software experience with the latest features. When it comes to everyday tasks and light gaming, you’re all set. Anything more demanding will need a bit more patience. Overall, the processor and RAM combo does its job. It’s no powerhouse, but it’s reliable.
Geek Photoshoot Capabilities
The realme C63 sports a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF, promising good photo quality in decent lighting conditions. As such, it would be better to avoid dimmer situations when taking those snapshots. You also get a decent amount of lossless 3X zoom which tops off at 10X, but expect noise and graininess once you go beyond the camera app’s 1-3X presets.
An auxiliary lens complements the main camera for depth sensing or macro shots. You only get one level of zoom, and it’s does alright. It’s by no means mindblowing, but the amount of bokeh is decent enough, and doesn’t envelop your subject in an incoherent mass. Good stuff.
For selfies, we get an 8 MP front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture. This comes in the form of 1X zoom for both normal and portrait shots. Even without switching on the beauty filter, you’ll turn out nicely.
For videos, the main camera shoots up to 1080p at 30 fps, while the selfie cam is limited to 720p. We wouldn’t recommend this for any form of professional content creation, but it’s perfectly fine for shooting those daily social media stories or video conferencing.
Everyday Reliability
The realme C63’s Weather-Proof Design is where it truly shines. As a budget smartphone, it’s expected to forego the usual spec showboating and go straight to being tough as nails. In that aspect, it means business. It all stems from the patented realme Lab High Reliability Certification–meaning this smartphone just might be tougher than you.
Clad in an IP54 dust and water resistance rating, you’re guaranteed protection against splashes and light rain. The liquids in question aren’t limited to rainwater, though. A variety of substances and fluids can come in contact with your backside, and all you’ll need to do is wipe it off. Easy peasy.
As for durability, it’s safe to say that for as long as you don’t try to stab it with righteous indignation, you’ll more or less be fine. The phone’s design has been tested to withstand everyday wear and tear, resisting hairline scratches you’d likely get from various objects in your bags and pocket.
The reliability doesn’t end with outside protection, as you also get a realme Lab 48-Month Fluency Certification. That’s four whole years of not worrying about your phone slowing down or straight-up dying on your way to work. As for everyone’s favorite real Essentials, the AI Noise Reduction, Mini Capsule 2.0, Rainwater Smart Touch, and Air Gestures make a welcome return. We’re still trying our best to get the Air Gestures to work in one try, but we’ll keep waiting for that feature to get optimized.
The Dynamic Button, Riding Mode, and AI Boost, are also here, and provide additional quality of life goodness to your everyday experiences. You won’t likely be utilizing them every single time, but simply having them there is a nice touch.
In terms of power, the realme C63 comes equipped with a large 5000 mAh battery, ensuring long-lasting performance. The 45W wired SUPERVOOC charging allows for quick recharges, enhancing the phone’s practicality for daily use.
Final Geek Lifestyle Verdict
