Ahead of the game’s launch this October, SEGA revealed more gameplay details for Sonic X Shadow Generations, including new info on Shadow’s abilities.
In case you missed its reveal, Sonic X Shadow Generations is part remaster of Sonic Generations and part new release as it features an additional story mode featuring Shadow the Hedgehog as the protagonist. This story mode features new levels that combine the series’ signature sidescrolling with 3D gameplay, much like the original Sonic Generations.
Shadow won’t just be a Sonic reskin though as he will feature original abilities via his Chaos Control. With this, Shadow can stop time to escape from danger or discover hidden paths in a level.
Meanwhile, Shadow’s other abilities include:
- Chaos Spear
- One of Shadow’s signature moves. When performing it, Shadow throws a powerful spear-like bolt of energy that can stop and neutralize enemy attack or activate mechanisms.
- Doom Powers
- Shadow can harness Doom Powers, a new set of abilities to battle hordes of enemies, surf on water, and fly over obstacles.
Along with these powers, the new story mode will feature the familiar Space Colony ARK stage, but with unique unique gravitational pulls, elaborate grind rail layouts, and missile turrets.
Also appearing in the Shadow story mode is the Biolizard, an enemy that appeared in Sonic Adventure 2. This fearsome foe can sprout two gigantic bioorganic arms to pummel you, and you must use Shadow’s Chaos Spear to defend against them.

This special version of the game will be available for PS5 and Switch, and it will include:

- Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie: Original Logo Sticker
As a bonus for fans, first-print copies of the game will also come with an original sticker inspired by the logo of the third Sonic the Hedgehog movie which will be released in cinemas soon.
