Krafton acquires Tango Gameworks, saving the studio from being shut down

Tango Gameworks has been saved!

Fans of the studio’s works can breathe a sigh of relief as Tango Gameworks is not shutting down following the announcement of its acquisition by Krafton.

Back in May, Microsoft announced that it was shutting down four studios, including Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios, and Roundhouse Games. This came as a shock to many, especially the announcement of Tango’s closure. After all, Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush got a lot of attention and praise when it was released last year.

While the other studios won’t come back, fans will be happy to know that Tango Gameworks will no longer be closed as Korean publisher Krafton announced that it will acquire the studio. Krafton is the publisher behind games like PUBG.

To be exact, Krafton announced that it will collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax media to “ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks.” As such, the team behind Hi-Fi Rush will be retained at Tango alongside most of the studio’s staff.

The acquisition also means that Krafton will now have the rights to the Hi-Fi Rush IP. Plus, it’s stated that there will be no impact on the studio’s existing game catalog, including titles like The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo.

From the looks of it, Tango Gameworks’ previous IP like Ghostwire: Tokyo will still be under Xbox Game Studios as only Hi-Fi Rush was mentioned. This should mean new entries in Tango’s previous franchises won’t be made anytime soon.

Still, Tango Gameworks being saved from getting shut down is great news. The cherry on the top is that a new Hi-Fi Rush game will likely be made.
