Ahead of its release this September, SEGA and Atlus shared a new trailer and more details on the Persona 3 Reload Expansion Pass Wave 3. While the highlight of the upcoming DLC release is The Answer, it will also feature a new difficulty mode and re-recorded tracks.
In case you’re unfamiliar, The Answer is essentially a new campaign that takes place after Persona 3’s main story. This time though, players follow Aigis as she grapples with the main story’s bittersweet ending.
Initially, The Answer was released as part of Persona 3 FES for the PS2. Since then though, The Answer has not gotten a proper re-release as it wasn’t included in Persona 3 Portable. Finally though, players can experience the new story with visual and gameplay enhancements.
To hype up Wave 3’s release, a new trailer for Episode Aigis -The Answer- was shared online, featuring lots of new gameplay and story footage. You can watch it here:
For a better idea of what to expect, The Answer’s premise is described as:
After getting together in Iwatodai Dorm before its closure, the members of SEES find themselves trapped in a never-ending loop, forced to relive the events of March 31st. The mystery deepens with the appearance of Metis—a mechanical girl claiming to be Aigis’s little sister—and the Abyss of Time, a mysterious dimension lurking beneath the dorm. Together, they must confront their pasts, uncover the truth, and make some tough choices.
Aside from the new trailer, SEGA and Atlus also shared a new look at the two key characters in the story: Aigis and Metis.
Meanwhile, here’s more info on the two key characters:
- Aigis (voiced by Maaya Sakamoto)
- An anti-Shadow weapon equipped with a heart that can harness Persona abilities. Aigis develops human emotions after fighting alongside SEES and living with them. In Episode Aigis, she gains the power of the wild card—the ability to wield multiple Personas—as she and Metis face a new threat in the Abyss of Time. Her original Persona, Athena, morphs into Orpheus.
- Metis (voiced by Chiwa Saito)
- A mechanical girl who claims to be Aigis’s younger sister. When the members of SEES find themselves trapped in a time loop, Metis appears and guides them to the Abyss of Time beneath Iwatodai Dorm.
- Her Persona, Psyche, specializes in Wind and Ice attacks as well as dealing physical damage.
As for gameplay, Wave 3 will include the following:
- New Theurgy Skills
- Aigis has brand-new Theurgy skills and access to some of the protagonist’s as well.
- Linked Episodes
- While exploring the Abyss of Time, players should look out for items that can be given to your party members. These items can unlock new Linked Episodes to deepen Aigis’ bond with the members of SEES.
- New Difficulty Mode
- Wave 3 will feature the game’sfifth and toughest difficulty level: Heartless.
- Persona Compendium
- Players will be able to carry over their save data from the main story to summon any Personas that are already registered.
- Note: Players won’t be able to transfer their Persona Compendium on Heartless mode.
Finally, Episode Aigis will feature a re-recorded versions of the original tracks, along with a new themes that have vocal performances by Azumi Takahashi and Lotus Juice. The new opening and battle theme “Don’t” and “Heartful Cry” are available now on select streaming platforms
Persona 3 Reload Expansion Pass Wave 3 will be released on all platforms on September 10, 2024. “The Answer” will not be available as a standalone DLC purchase, meaning players will need to buy the Expansion Pass to get access.
