The realme C63 | A handsomely rugged entry-level device

Sturdy. Sexy.

As we look forward to another potential banger for the roster, we had a chance to spend more time with their recent, more rugged realme C63. The brand’s latest entry to their more affordable C series literally kicked down the price range door, providing quite a bit of buzz for itself–and, personally, turned our respective heads more so than its predecessor.

Sporting a more rough and tumble aesthetic–and we mean this in the best way, it definitely caters to the more haphazard of users who still want to show off a bit of class. With a scratch-resistant, vegan leather backside, a large camera setup, and a serviceable IP54 rating, it can more than withstand the hurdles of everyday life while looking like it punches above its weight class.

That being said, compromises had to be made for the realme C63. For as long as you can set your expectations appropriately, you’ll have zero problems. It does what you’d expect of it, for as long as it’s within the realms of reality. Starting off with its display, we won’t give it too much flak for sporting an IPS LCD display given its price range. Still, it’s worth noting that the budget beast competition gets more volatile through the years, and realme will likely have to step things up if they want to be ahead of the curve. Screens are–well, literally half of the phone. Nonetheless, the 6.75 inches and 85% screen-to-body ratio get the job done when it comes to recreational use and productivity.

Seemingly within the theme of ultimate ruggedness, it won’t be the smoothest experience when it comes to multitasking, though. The 12-nanometer Unisoc Tiger T612 isn’t known for being a powerhouse processor, so opening ten apps at once won’t be a fun time. While we do get a total of 16GB of expandable RAM, you still shouldn’t tempt fate by going on Facebook while playing Zenless Zone Zero.

If you can overlook the fact that you shouldn’t stress-test your smartphone on the daily, what awaits you is a pretty solid day-to-day. Any run-of-the-mill productivity and social media app runs perfectly fine. Running games at their default setting while making use of the proprietary game engine makes for a fun time. Heck, even Capcut doesn’t struggle as much as we’d assume. Speaking of which, you really shouldn’t be shooting videos with this, unless it’s for simple Facebook and Instagram stories or anything just for funsies. What we’re saying is you won’t be shooting documentaries with the C63. However, photos are a different story.

We can confidently say that you’ll be able to produce social media-ready photos. That statement doesn’t seem like it has much confidence, but hear us out. They’ll be decent, and probably won’t warrant you any criticism from anyone who isn’t a total photo snob purist. The 50MP main camera produces shots that capture enough details from your subject. The 8MP selfie camera isn’t anything to scoff at either, whether it be a normal or portrait shot. You don’t really need 32 megapixels to take a good enough selfie.

Now, for the best part–resilience and longevity. As per our own testing of the realme C63 and its patented Weather-proof Design, you need not worry about it breaking under pressure. Just make sure you don’t do anything outlandish to it. It’s quite resistant to scratches, strangely enough–given how its backside isn’t composed of a hard shell. Spill are even less of a problem. As for its battery, the usual 5000 mAh worked fine–as usual. More than a day of use, and several on standby. You can expect even a bit more screen time if you don’t crank up the mobile data. Since we’re looking at a smartphone geared towards daily-driving, we’re not surprised–and at the same time, we’re just glad. No problems here.

We purposely saved mentioning the 48-month fluency rating towards the end. Mainly because it’s a huge factor when it comes to considering this smartphone as your daily partner. It adds even more value to its already proven sturdiness, and having that peace of mind is something worth noting. If you need reliability, are willing to forego a few features for power users, and dig that sweet aesthetic–then by all means, look no further.
