Following the recent theatrical run of Look Back in the country, Encore Films has announced that Naoko Yamada and Science SARU’s The Colors Within is getting a cinema release in the Philippines this October.
This film was initially announced in late 2022, and it should be a must-watch for anime fans looking for something different from your typical shonen or romance fare. After all, it features an original story where the protagonist can see the “colors” of people. Not to mention that it has gorgeous visuals, as you can see in the trailer here:
Directing the series is Naoko Yamada, the director of the hit anime series K-On! along with popular anime films like A Silent Voice. Joining Yamada is writer Reiko Yoshida and music composer Kensuke Ushio. These three are notable collaborators as Yamada, Yoshida, and Ushio have also worked together on the movies A Silent Voice and Liz and the Blue Bird, as well as on the series The Heike Story (also by Science SARU).
As for its story, The Colors Within is described as:
“The film follows Totsuko, a high school student who has the ability to see the “colors” of other people. Emotions are different colors to her, but Totsuko’s favorite color is the one her favorite classmate, Kimi, exudes. Together they form a band with the quiet Rui, and their story of friendship and music unfolds.”
Aside from its notable staff list, the film also got critical acclaim when it premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France a few months ago. Plus, it also won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Animation Film at the 2024 Shanghai International Film Festival.
The Colors Within is coming to cinemas in the Philippines on October 23 via Encore Films PH.
