The vivo V40 is out now for pre-order, and this ZEISS Portrait Master is a must-have for photography enthusiasts

The vivo V40 has landed in the PH, and it makes the ZEISS photography experience more accessible!

After much anticipation and an array of teasers, vivo has finally launched the V40 in the Philippines, and it’s an exciting launch for a multitude of reasons.

Over the years, vivo’s V series has seen plenty of eye-catching models that come with excellent portrait photography capabilities. Now, vivo once again promises to deliver a great device for budding photographers, and this time with a new ace up its sleeve.

After introducing the ZEISS camera setup to the V series with the V30 Pro, vivo has now expanded this signature partnership to the series’ base model. As such, users should be able to enjoy better photos with more creative options.

vivo V40 ZEISS Cameras – A First for the vivo V Series Base Model

When vivo and ZEISS inked their partnership some years ago, the vivo X Series flagship devices got ZEISS-branded cameras. These not only came with ZEISS Natural Color processing but also some unique filters that emulate the bokeh effect of specific lenses.

Now, vivo has packed the V40 with ZEISS All Main Camera. To be exact, it features a ZEISS 50MP OIS Main Camera plus a ZEISS 50MP Ultrawide Angle Camera setup. Even its front shooter is a ZEISS 50MP Group Selfie Camera.

For the main cameras, the highlight is undoubtedly the introduction of the ZEISS Multifocal Portrait feature. With this, the vivo V40’s Portrait Mode features three “focal lengths” to choose from: 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm. While this is essentially a digital zoom function, it does give users more of a pro photography feel when snapping pics.

For those who have just begun their photography journey, these focal lengths have different use cases. To start, the 24mm focal length is designed for landscapes. Meanwhile, 35mm is for environmental photography and wider portraits. Finally, 50mm is pretty much the default option for half-body portraits as these offer the most “natural” look for taking photos of people, not to mention that it provides a nice bokeh effect.

Speaking of the bokeh effect, the V40’s ZEISS camera setup also comes with various portrait filters, including Biotar, Planar, Distagon, and Sonnar. When using these filters, you’ll notice that the shape of bokeh effect lights are different as each lens has a unique look. There’s also the ZEISS Cinematic Portrait feature which lets you capture images with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio and distinctive oval bokeh that should look straight out of a movie.

What’s also great about the phone is that these ZEISS filters aren’t exclusive to the main camera setup. Yes, that means you can also take advantage of these filters when using the selfie camera.

On top of the filters and Multifocal Portrait feature, the vivo V40’s cameras also feature the V Series’ signature Aura Light Portrait system. Even though it’s a smaller unit, the system here is 33% brighter than its predecessor.

That’s just scratching the surface of the phone’s cameras though as there are also other useful features like AI 3D Studio Lighting for better portrait lighting, as well as the ZEISS Natural Color option for more true-to-life colors. There’s also the fact that the main shooter packs a Samsung ISOCELL GNJ Sensor with OIS, meaning it should be a great match for low-light photography.

It’s fair to say that vivo focused on the cameras for the V40, but that’s not to say the phone is only made for photography. The vivo V40 is also a capable daily driver thanks to its performance and design.

Combining Capable Performance with Dependable Battery Life

Powering the vivo V40 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 platform that’s paired with the Ultra Large VC Smart Cooling System to help it keep from overheating, even under heavier loads. Thus, it should be a good match for playing today’s popular games.

As for everyday use, the phone also packs vivo’s extended RAM feature to give it extra memory when needed. Thus, you won’t likely run into any major slowdowns when using the phone for social media, work, and light content creation.

It’s also important for any daily driver to have reliable battery life, so it’s good to see the vivo V40 pack a large 5,500 mAh BlueVolt battery. With this, lasting for an entire day should not be an issue, even when you use the phone quite heavily.

On the times when you need to charge though, it won’t take long to fill the phone up as the vivo V40 supports 80W FlashCharge, meaning it can get to 100% in well under an hour. Plus, quick top-ups should also give you hours of use – handy for the times when you forget to charge your phone the night before a busy workday.

Premium Design and Display

Along with being a reliable device for everyday use, the vivo V40 is also an eye-catching phone that should delight users who want a stylish daily driver. It also has a slight curvature to help it look and feel great in the hand.

The design isn’t just made for looks though as the phone also packs IP68 Water and Dust Resistance. Thus, you won’t have to worry about the phone getting water or dust damage, as you would many flagship phones (as an IP68 rating is often reserved for top-of-the-line smartphones).

Rounding out its impressive feature set is the vivo V40’s 1.5K Ultra Clear Sunlight Display. The name is because the screen has 4500 nits local peak brightness, meaning it should be clear as day, even on the sunniest of days. What’s more, the screen is AMOLED, meaning the phone should be a great partner for binge-watching thanks to its vibrant colors and deep blacks.
