The first-ever Honor of Kings McDonald’s Tempest Cup held its finals event on October 4, and there, Blacklist International took home the grand prize.
In case you missed it, Honor of Kings first teased a McDonald’s collab back in August. Soon, it was revealed that this collab was for the Tempest Cup, a tournament that featured competitions in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. As this is a McDonald’s collab, these tournament legs took place in select McDonald’s outlets.
This three-week-long tournament culminated on October 4 at McDonald’s Frontera Verde in Pasig City, and it featured the top teams in the country. After a day of MOBA action, it was Blacklist International who took down Execration to win the first-ever Honor of Kings Tempest Cup.
Regarding their win, Blacklist International Coach Gerald Gianne Gelacio said:
“I’m so happy na nag-champion kami sa first ever McDonald’s Tempest Cup and minamanefest ko talaga to, na manalo kami para maging momentum din namin sa darating na HOK Championship. (I am very happy that we are the champions in the first-ever McDonald’s Tempest Cup, and I really manifested that we would win so we would have the momentum in the upcoming HOK Championship.).”
While the event may be over, it seems that more is in store for the HoK and McDonald’s collab as teased by Level Infinite.
“The McDonald’s Tempest Cup is the start of many Honor of Kings esports tournaments coming to the Philippines. With its success, we are also looking forward to the next chapter in our partnership with McDonald’s Philippines. We hope to see everyone soon!” stated Angelica Neri, Senior Esports Manager at Level Infinite.
For now though, there’s no word yet on what else the collab will bring, though we might see more esports-focused events from the two brands soon. Hopefully we also see a collab meal, as is the case with many gaming and fast food collabs.
