Little Nightmares III is coming out next year, and when it launches, it’s likely going to be another streaming darling, as was the case with the previous two titles. In fact, Little Nightmares II even became trendy among streamers even a year after its initial launch.
Horror games in particular are incredibly popular among streamers for many reasons. For one, players’ reactions are fun to see with scary titles. There’s also the fact that some people just aren’t into playing horror games given how stressful they can be, and watching someone stream horror titles is a way to experience them without the scare factor.
Because of how popular they are in streaming, I wondered what horror game developers think of their games being watched instead of played. Is it something that they like to see and actively develop for? Or would they prefer if players experience the games for themselves instead of via playthroughs.
Thus, this is what I asked Little Nightmares III producer Coralie Fenniello of Bandai Namco during a recent media roundtable interview. I asked Fenniello what the team thinks of Little Nightmares III in the world of game streaming.
In response, Fenniello said that they would be happy for the game to become a big streaming game as with the previous titles. While she didn’t exactly say that they developed it with streaming in mind, she did mention the game’s online co-op feature might make it more appealing.
“Streaming is something that is more and more present in the gaming industry, said Fenniello. “Little Nightmares III having online co-op, I think that’s something that will also make the streamer be able to play together (with others) and enjoy the experience [more] compared to the previous games. To bring that to the viewers, I think it’s a great new way to experience the world of Litle Nightmares.”
While we can’t claim that every horror game developer thinks this way, it’s nice to know that Little Nightmares III’s developers think streaming is a great way to experience the game, especially for those who would rather watch the game instead of play it.
As for co-op, while it won’t have a local multiplayer option, the game’s co-op feature will likely make it an even more popular streaming game given how it opens up collabs.
Little Nightmares III will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime in 2025.
