Soon after the review embargo lifted, Metaphor: ReFantazio’s Metascore settled at 94, making it tied with Shadow of the Erdtree and Astro Bot as the best-reviewed game of 2024. Of course, the Metascore may still change as more reviews come in.
Still, the fact that the game has gotten a lot of praise this early is a good indicator that Metaphor is a top GOTY contender. From the looks of it, this title along with FF7 Rebirth and Astro Bot are the strongest candidates for best game of 2024. Shadow of the Erdtree is another, though it’s technically not a proper game release as it’s DLC for Elden Ring.
Comparing it to other Atlus RPGs, Metaphor: ReFantazio has a higher Metascore than even heavy-hitters like Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload. Thus, this is a huge win for Atlus and Studio Zero.
Metaphor: ReFantazio will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 11, 2024.
In case the high review scores aren’t enough to convince you though, the game has a free demo available now on all platforms.
