The ever-popular San-X mascot character Rilakkuma is getting a new anime, and it is in the works by Production I.G.
Yes, this new anime is being made by the same studio behind hit titles like Heavenly Delusion and Kaiju No. 8, though this new anime isn’t being made by the same team as I.G’s shonen shows. Instead, this upcoming anime is being made by staff members from The Concierge at Hokkyoku Department Store movie which was released last year.
There’s not a lot of details yet about the anime, though it did get an announcement trailer that featured adorable scenarios featuring Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, Kiiroitori, and Chairoikoguma. What’s more, the trailer also features the song “stay with me” by YOASOBI’s Lilas Ikuta.
Lilas Ikuta being involved in the anime is a great fit as her voice works well with the cute and wholesome vibe of the show based on the trailer. It’s also a collab that makes sense given that she is a big fan of Rilakkuma.
For now, we’ll have to wait for more details on the Rilakkuma anime. As it’s still in production, we might also have to wait a while before it gets released.
This isn’t the first Rilakkuma adaptation though. Netflix has released two stop-motion animated series based on the popular San-X character, including Rilakkuma and Kaoru and Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure.
