Day 2 of gamescom asia 2024 was jam packed with a lot of highlights. Felt like you missed out? Here are some of the key moments.
Alvin Tan, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry, delivered an opening speech talking about the fast-growing gaming and esports industries in Singapore, emphasizing the country’s importance in the wider Asia region.
The Pitch Competition showcased the talent of indie game developers from around the world. Out of 55 entries, 13 finalists presented their games to a panel of industry judges. The competition highlighted the creativity of Southeast Asian developers, with several teams receiving top honors. Battlebrew Productions’ Love In Tiny Spaces won Best Pitch, Ammobox Studio’s Project Guardian (working title) took home the award for Best Game Design, and Bit Egg Inc’s Lost and Found Co. was named the Most Anticipated Game. Winners received various prizes, including cash and playtesting vouchers, which will help support the continued development of their projects.
Event attendees with VIP passes got an exclusive sneak peek into the entertainment area, which featured major brands like CAPCOM, PlayStation, and 4Divinity. People lined up to try highly anticipated games such as Monster Hunter Wilds and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. In addition to high-profile titles, over 60 indie games were on display. For those who don’t have the VIP pass, the entertainment area will officially open to the public on October 19.
One of the standout talks on day 2 was delivered by Wan Hazmer of Metronomik as he discussed the importance of combining local cultures into game design, explaining how this not only enriches the gameplay experience but also strengthens the identity of indie developers and studios.
Day 2 concluded with the B2B afterparty, marking the end of the business section of gamescom asia 2024. Conference attendees, including VIPs, speakers, media, and exhibitors, gathered to celebrate another successful year for the gaming industry in Asia.
But it doesn’t stop there, there’s still a lot for people can look forward to in day 3. There’s the CAPCOM Pro Tour 2024 Super Premier Tournament in which the top 16 finalists in Street Fighter 6 will compete against one another. Fans can also meet Andrew Wincott, voice actor from Baldur’s Gate 3, as well as the creative minds behind Monster Hunter Wilds. Indie Wavemakers Showcase will allow attendees to have hands-on with the latest indie games and participate in the Stamp Rally Lucky Draw for a chance to win exclusive prizes.
