Game Source Entertainment (GSE) has announced that Ratatan, a rhythmic roguelike action game, will launch in 2025 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series. Developed in collaboration with Hiroyuki Kotani, notably known as the game designer behind the iconic Patapon series, and Tokyo Virtual Theory (TVT), Ratatan is looking to bring in a unique blend of rhythm-based gameplay and roguelike mechanics.
All those who remember the good old days of playing Patapon on the PSP and still hum the theme song in their heads every now and then? This is the game for you. For so long, people have been calling for a remaster or a new entry in the franchise. Ratatan is looking like a proper spiritual successor.
Players will step into the role of Ratatan, a magical entity commanding an army of Cobun through rhythmic sequences. With up to four players supported in online co-op, the game challenges players to issue attack and defense commands while moving and using unique character skills. Powered by TVT’s proprietary “Theory Engine,” Ratatan promises a fast and stable online multiplayer environment, ensuring seamless cooperative gameplay.
The game also has roguelike elements, with randomized power-ups and rewards in each battle, ensuring that every playthrough is different.
Renowned illustrator and character designer Nelnal has brought Ratatan to life with vibrant visuals and a rich roster of characters. The game will have a variety of new systems and multiplayer mini games.
As a spiritual successor to the Patapon series, Ratatan is looking to capture the hearts of fans and newcomers alike with its fusion of music and action. Hiroyuki Kotani’s creative vision, combined with modern technology and fresh gameplay mechanics, marks Ratatan as a standout title for 2025.
With rhythm-based combat, roguelike systems, and multiplayer modes, Ratatan promises to deliver a one-of-a-kind gaming experience that caters to fans of music and action. Players can look forward to Ratatan’s game launch sometime in 2025.
