It has been over a year since the second volume, and finally, Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 is confirmed to be in the works, and it will once again feature episodes made by popular Japanese anime studios.
The series’ third season was announced at the 2024 Disney Asia-Pacific Content Showcase, with details also being shared shortly after on theofficial Star Wars website.
Visions’ first season featured episodes made by Japanese anime studios, but with season 2, Lucasfilm tapped studios from across the world. For season 3, Star Wars: Visions is returning to Japan, tapping previous collaborators along with new ones.
To start, here are the five studios (along with their popular works) that have worked on Volume 1 and are returning for Volume 3:
- Kamikaze Douga (Sand Land: The Series, Batman Ninja)
- Kinema citrus Co., (Made in Abyss, The Rising of the Shield Hero)
- Production I.G (Heavenly Delusion, Haikyuu)
- Trigger (Delicious in Dungeon, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners)
- ANIMA (Altered Carbon: Resleeved) in co-production with Kamikaze Douga
Meanwhile, here are the four new studios that Lucasfilm are collaborating with:
- David Production (Urusei Yatsura Remake, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
- Polygon Pictures (Blame!, Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage)
- Project Studio Q (CGI animation for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time )
- Wit Studio (Spy x Family, Ranking of Kings)
Given that there are nine studios, it makes sense that Volume 3 will also feature 9 animated shorts. As with the previous two volumes, these shorts will all be released on Disney+ globally.
As for a release date, the third volume has no specific release date yet, though it is confirmed to come out sometime in 2025.
