In what is another surprise crossover, SEGA announced that Hatsune Miku and Godzilla are now available as DLC characters in Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble for the Nintendo Switch. Along with these two, the game also has a new Nijisanji collab along with a big free update.
While the Dole collab may still be more unexpected, this new crossover is still surprising, though it makes more sense given that Hatsune Miku and Godzilla are Japanese icons. Even those who aren’t familiar with Vocaloid and kaiju films still probably know these two characters.
Aside from playing as Miku or Godzilla (albeit cutesy versions of the two) in Adventure or Battle Mode, players will see some changes to the theme. As Miku, players will collect musical notes instead of bananas. Meanwhile, Godzilla will pick up trains instead.
Note that the Hatsune Miku and Godzilla characters are sold separately as DLC, meaning you’ll need to shell out some dough to play as these Japanese icons.
Aside from these two, the game also has a new Nijisanji collab featuring an exclusive set of customization items, including:
- Saegusa Akina Outfit
- Saegusa Akina Wig
- Saegusa Akina Gloves
- Saegusa Akina Sneakers
- NIJISANJI UKIUKI CUP Logo Shirt
- NIJISANJI UKIUKI CUP Moon Ball
To get this, players should download the NIJISANJI UKIUKI CUP Memorial Set via the game’s Nintendo eShop page under the Downloadable content. While it’s free, the DLC can only be claimed until December 26, 2024.
As for the free update, the game has a new Battle Mode Game called Super Punchy Brawl. Here, players will need to aim their glove and land a punch to get points. Sending opponents flying off the map will net even more points. The player with the most points by the end wins.
Meanwhile, here are the four new rules added to Adventure Mode:
- Time Attack: Banana Bonus – A special version of Time Attack where collecting more bananas gives you a faster clear time
- No Miss Challenge – Clear as many Stages as you can without falling off before time runs out
- Super Speed – The monkeys will roll even faster
- Monkey See – Race to the goal from your monkey’s point of view
Finally, the difficulty of 20 Adventure Mode Stages has been cranked up in the brand-new Ultimate World – great for players who want even more challenge.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is available now on the Nintendo Switch. There’s also a free demo available on the eShop which lets players try out 30 stages.
