With Persona 3 Reload proving to be a huge hit, it should come as no surprise that the Persona series has now officially sold 23.5 million copies worldwide.
In SEGA’s recent Annual Integrated Report for 2024, it was revealed that the Persona series’ total sales worldwide are now at 23.5 million copies, counting both digital and physical sales.
This makes Atlus’ now-signature series one of the highest-selling RPG franchises ever, and while it’s still quite far away from the numbers of series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, its numbers are no doubt impressive. After all, there are only a handful of mainline Persona games. Even including the spinoffs and re-releases, there have only been 20 Persona game releases in total since the series began in 1996.
According to the report, the Persona series’ fast sales are helped in part due to the multi-platform and simultaneous worldwide release strategy, coupled with the number of spin-offs and remaster titles that have been released.
Aside from Persona, SEGA and Atlus have also gotten a lot of big wins this year as titles from both studios have gotten excellent sales in 2024. These include games like Unicorn Overlord, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and more.
As for the future of the Persona series, it’s likely that its lifetime sales number will get even higher. Given the franchise’s current popularity, we expect the eventual Persona 6 to be a huge seller. Hopefully we get more news about that in the near future.
