After its theatrical release back in August, Alien: Romulus is finally confirmed to stream on Disney+ beginning on January 1st.
Before Romulus, the last movie in the beloved sci-fi horror franchise was Alien: Covenant which came out in 2017. Even though the wait was long, it was worth it for many Alien fans as Romulus was a hit. Sure, it treads familiar Alien ground, but director Fede Alvarez delivered plenty of thrills with this installment. This is thanks in large part to the focus on practical effects which enhanced the film’s overall feel.
Aside from getting a positive reception from critics and fans, Romulus was also a box office hit as it earned USD 350.9 million worldwide (its budget was only USD 80 million). Thanks to this, a sequel has been greenlit.
For those who missed Romulus’ theatrical run (or for those who simply want to give it a rewatch), the film is finally releasing on Disney+ on New Year’s Day. The film’s streaming release took some time, though it makes sense given that Romulus works best on the big screen.
Alien: Romulus will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning January 1, 2025.
Even if you didn’t get to see the movie in cinemas, the Disney+ release should still be a great option. Just make sure you watch at night with all the lights off for the full experience.
In case you need something scarier though, you may want to try out Alien: Rogue Incursion, the new VR game.
