Crunchyroll Anime Awards returns to Tokyo in May 2025 with a long-awaited change
Which anime do you think will dominate the next Crunchyroll Awards?
The next Crunchyroll Anime Awards is happening once again in Tokyo, and this time the ceremony will be held in May 2025.
To be exact, the 9th awards ceremony will happen on May 25, 2025, while voting begins on April 3, 2025. For now, there are no nominees yet as there is a big change in the next Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
Previously, Crunchyroll’s awards had an eligibility period of October of the previous year to September of the current year. Because of this, some of 2023’s most popular anime (such as Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries) weren’t nominated in the previous ceremony as they premiered in October. As such, it was Jujutsu Kaisen that dominated the awards.
Thankfully, this will no longer be the case as the Anime Awards will soon make the full calendar year its eligibility period, meaning it will be a much better representation of each year’s best shows.
For the “2024” awards, the eligibility period will be from October 2023 to December 2024. This is so Fall 2023 titles will still be eligible.
Aside from the new eligibility period, the next awards will also added the Best Isekai and Best Hindi Voice Artist. In total, there will be 32 categories.
Along with these changes, Crunchyroll also revealed the ceremony’s hosts along with the first presenter. This year, we’ll see Sally Amaki and Jon Kabira return as the hosts. Meanwhile, Brazilian drag queen Pabllo Vittar is the first confirmed celebrity presenter. More guests will be announced as the event draws closer.
The 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards will happen at the Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa in Tokyo on May 25, 2025.
