Lenovo Yoga Pro 7: Exploring the Performance of this new Copilot+ PC

The Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 is a promising partner for content creation!

Lenovo recently launched its lineup of AI laptops in the Philippines, and among them is the Yoga Pro 7. This laptop is a sleek and slim notebook that should be easy to bring everywhere you go, but it’s not just made for school and office work. Instead, this laptop promises to also be a capable partner for content creation.

Yes, that’s right, Lenovo promises that this laptop has enough power to edit 4K videos and work on 3D models. This is thanks in large part to the new AMD Ryzen AI processor which should have great performance for hardware-intensive tasks.

To complement the processor, the Yoga Pro 7 also has an improved cooling solution which, according to Lenovo, lets in more airflow to keep temps low.

Given these promises, we were interested in trying the laptop out for ourselves. So, when we got the chance to get our hands on one, we explored its performance for content creation, and we added some gaming tests as well to see just how powerful this new Lenovo Yoga laptop is.

All You Need to Know About the Ryzen AI Processor

Before getting into the tests, let’s first talk about the Yoga Pro 7’s Ryzen AI processor. Earlier this year, AMD unveiled its Ryzen AI 300 series processors for laptops. To be exact, the model that we have is powered by the Ryzen AI 9 365 which is a 10-core, 20-thread processor with a max boost clock of up to 5 GHz.

What makes the Ryzen AI line for laptops special is that it combines a capable CPU with a Neural Processing Unit (or NPU for short). If you’ve been following tech news over the past year, you should already be familiar with an NPU. If not, an NPU is a dedicated processor for AI tasks which should help run apps that use AI better, all while freeing up the CPU and GPU to work on other tasks.

Currently, apps that take advantage of NPUs aren’t as widespread yet, though this will likely change in the coming years given how much AI is being used in more software.

It’s not just the NPU that makes the Yoga Pro 7 a powerhouse though as the integrated graphics card is also a capable one. To be exact, this laptop packs an AMD Radeon 880M integrated GPU.

When it comes to laptops for content creation, it’s often recommended to get a model with a dedicated graphics card. That is not the case with this new Yoga as its performance promises to rival that of dedicated GPUs – important especially for creative tasks like video editing and 3D graphics work.

So, How Powerful is the Yoga Pro 7 Exactly?

The Yoga Pro 7’s specs are great on paper, and Lenovo’s content creation angle makes the laptop a promising new partner for creatives. But is that really the case? Well, when we got the new Yoga, we tried the laptop out for some editing work. During our time editing on the laptop, we used large 4K files, and it had no issues keeping up. Even rendering didn’t take that long which is a testament to the capabilities of the Radeon 880M integrated GPU.

Given that it handled 4K editing with ease while still having enough headroom for other tasks, this laptop should also be a great match for other creative works like 3D modeling. Of course, its performance won’t match a proper desktop workstation, but the fact that it can perform well being slim and light should make it a great partner for creatives who are always on the go.

While not content creation, we were curious to see how well it worked for gaming. As expected, multiplayer titles like Dota 2 and Overwatch 2 ran smoothly even at higher graphics settings.

What was surprising was the performance of AAA games. For instance, we played Hitman: World of Assassination, and even at the Medium graphics settings and at Full HD, the game ran smoothly at 50 FPS.  While it’s not exactly made for gaming, it’s great to see that it can run even AAA games at Full HD, especially for those who want to play games during their downtime.

Aside from playing games, we also ran the 3Dmark Time Spy benchmark, and the results are pretty good:

Of course, it’s worth noting that all our performance tests were while the laptop was plugged in and in performance mode. If you’re planning to work on content with this laptop, you can do so with lighter workloads when on battery power.

Powerful, But Also Nicely Designed

As mentioned above, the Yoga Pro 7 has an improved cooling system courtesy of two powerful fans along with additional holes to increase airflow. In our time with the laptop, this system worked as the Yoga Pro 7 did not overheat, even when we were editing or playing games, the laptop had no major heating issues.

It’s not just the cooling that’s designed well though as the Yoga Pro 7 is also a well-made laptop overall, especially its peripherals. To start, the laptop has a keyboard with a 1.5mm key travel for a better tactile feel. The keys also have a deep dish design to make typing feel better.

Lenovo also packed the laptop with four noise-cancelling mics and an FHD camera with a time-of-flight sensor. This combo makes it a great device for online conferences. Plus, the speakers also get quite loud while having a good bass extension.

Most importantly, the Yoga Pro 7 has a great display for creating content. After all, the 14.5″ PureSight Pro 2.8K OLED screen has accurate colors and a 120Hz refresh rate. As a bonus, it comes with TUV Low Blue Light and EyeSafe certification for a more comfortable experience.

What About the AI Features?

A big part of the laptop’s branding is the fact that it’s a Copilot+ PC. Because of this, the laptop has some exclusive Windows AI features that take advantage of the NPU.

The most exciting one for many is the Image Creator feature on Paint. This is basically AI image generation built into Paint (powered by Dall-E) that lets users generate images based on text prompts.

There are some interesting use cases for this. For instance, it can be used to make images for presentations, as well as images for inspiration when creating content. As such, it’s a nice feature to have for users who want some extra inspiration for their next creative work.

There are also other AI features coming soon to the laptop, including Live Captions with Translation, Windows Studio Effects for conference calls, and more.

Lenovo Yoga Pro 7: Price and Availability in the Philippines

As promised, the new Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 is indeed a laptop that fits the bill for content creation and productivity. Its Ryzen AI processor is powerful enough for 4K editing and even AAA gaming – especially impressive given its size and the fact that it has integrated Radeon graphics.

On top of these, the laptop has a great design, both in terms of looks and practicality, along with a top-notch display that has accurate color output. Finally, it’s optimized for AI tasks and packs some nifty Windows AI features.

So, if you’re looking for a new creative partner, the Yoga Pro 7 is definitely worth a look. In the Philippines, this new Lenovo Yoga laptop is priced at PHP 100,995, and it’s available now in Lenovo concept stores and partner retailers nationwide.
