McDonald’s Japan unveils surprise Evangelion collab

The collab features three exclusive EVA-inspired mechas inspired by the McDonald's Big Mac Value Meal

After sharing some EVA-themed teasers, McDonald’s Japan finally revealed the Evangelion collab via its official social media pages and website.

McDonald’s Japan is no stranger to anime collabs as it has released some fun crossovers with popular IP like Gundam over the years. This latest one might just be the best one yet as it does not come with just a meal. Instead, this crossover features exclusive collectibles that promise to be must-haves for big EVA fans.

Specifically, the collab features three toys that transform from a McDonald’s Big Mac meal into EVA-inspired mechas.

These toys are essentially the iconic McDonald’s Big Mac, Fries, and Drink that transform into mechas. The drink cup becomes Rei’s Unit-00 complete with a shield. Meanwhile, the Big Mac becomes Shinji’s Unit-01. Fittingly, the iconic red fries box turns into Asuka’s Unit-02.

Given the quality and details are more than a step above typical Happy Meal toys, these collectibles will be limited in stock, and fans will need to enter a lottery for a chance to buy them. Plus, these goodies have a premium price tag as they are priced at JPY 3,900 (around USD 25 or PHP 1,470).

Lottery entries for the new McDonald’s and Evangelion collab are open now until January 10, 2025. More details can be found on the official website.

For now, the McDonald’s x EVA collab seem to be Japan-exclusive. Based on previous McDonald’s anime collabs, this one will likely stay exclusive to Japan.
