Putting the OPPO Find X8 Hasselblad Cameras to the Test

The OPPO Find X8 is not only the brand’s latest flagship smartphone, but it’s also the newest OPPO device that packs a Hasselblad-branded camera setup.

OPPO and Hasselblad’s partnership began in 2022, and since then, we’ve seen various phones feature the iconic Swedish medium format camera manufacturer’s logo on the camera module. This isn’t just for show though as the phones pack nifty photography features such as Hasselblad filters that produce more true-to-life colors.

The OPPO Find X8 not only features Hasselblad cameras, but it also harnesses the power of AI to deliver excellent photos in a wide array of shooting scenarios. As such, the OPPO Find X8 should be one of the best flagship phones in the PH market right now when it comes to photography.

While we can already attest to its photography capabilities in our review, we wanted to try out the cameras some more to see just how good the OPPO Find X8 is for photography. So, we tested it again, and this time, we’re diving deeper into its camera capabilities.

Testing its Landscape, Indoor, and Night Photography Capabilities

When you see the OPPO Find X8, you’ll notice that it has an eye-catching circular camera module, and that’s not just because of the Hasselblad “H” logo on it. It’s also striking given how big it is, though the size makes sense given that it packs three 50MP cameras, with the telephoto also having a periscope lens design.

Before we explore its telephoto capabilities though, let’s first take a look at the main 50MP camera. Aside from having a large 1/1.56″ sensor size, this camera also has OIS, meaning it should deliver great results, even at night.

To start though, here are some samples in daytime and indoors:

As you can see in the images above, the OPPO Find X8’s main camera captures great photos with plenty of detail and true-to-life colors. There are also 2x zoom shots in the album above that are sharp and detailed – good results even if the 2x zoom is basically a digital crop using the main camera.

At night, the main camera delivers incredible results, especially when using the dedicated Night Mode. Shots taken with this mode have plenty of detail and brightness without going overboard.

What’s also great with the OPPO Find X8’s low-light photos is that the colors are still natural. After all, other phones overdo it with the saturation for Night Mode shots.

Another thing that other phones have is an ultrawide camera with a lower megapixel count. That’s not the case with the OPPO Find X8 as the ultrawide shooter is also a 50MP camera. While megapixels aren’t everything, we were impressed by this camera’s capabilities, both in daylight and nighttime as you can see in the following samples:

Again, the colors of the main and ultrawide cameras are quite accurate and not unnaturally vibrant. This is a plus for us, though for those who want some more pop, the OPPO Find X8 has a wide array of filters to choose from.

The OPPO Find X8’s AI Telephoto Cameras are Still the Highlight

We were already impressed with the main and ultrawide cameras, but after more time with the OPPO Find X8, we can say for certain that the 50MP 3x telephoto is the highlight of the phone’s camera setup.

At 3x zoom, images look great, both in daytime and at night. Check out the samples here:

What’s more impressive is that, even if you go beyond the 3x optical zoom length, shots are still detailed and sharp. Yes, even at 6x zoom, you can get lossless results:

This is thanks in large part to its image processing capabilities which OPPO calls the AI Telescope Zoom. On its own, the phone processes zoomed-in images quite well, enough that they still look fairly natural with good colors to match.

If you want to go beyond though, you’ll be surprised to find out that even extremely zoomed-in photos still look great thanks to the OPPO Find X8’s AI.

OPPO AI Makes for Incredible Results

The new OPPO flagship comes with a wealth of AI features, though our favorite is definitely the AI Clarity Enhancer feature. With this, you can take shots at 100x zoom or more and have them looking sharp thanks to AI.

To give you an idea of just how well it works, here’s a sample:

The AI Clarity Enhancer accurately cleaned up and sharpened the image to make the sign readable, even at an extreme distance.

This isn’t just useful for signs though as you can also use it for creative shots like these moon photos:

Its AI capabilities aren’t just reserved for the telephoto camera though as the OPPO Find X8 also has the AI Reflection Remover. As its name implies, this smartly removes reflections from your photo – a great feature to have when taking photos at night through glass. Thus, this is a great feature to take advantage of if you love taking night landscapes.

Another feature that everyone will want to use is AI Unblur. Basically, it sharpens up blurry images so you won’t have to worry about taking photos of fleeting moments and being left only with blurry images.

Finally, there’s the trusty AI Eraser. With this feature, you can easily remove unwanted people or objects in the photo so you can produce that perfect shot.

AI features are often hyped up now, but the OPPO Find X8’s AI capabilities are more than just hype as they’re actually helpful in getting better photos in more challenging scenarios.

Yes, the OPPO Find X8 is Still a Great Portrait Partner

Portrait photography has been a key strength of OPPO’s Reno and Find series, and that still holds true with the latest flagship.

Thanks to the 50MP periscope telephoto camera, the Find X8 can take great portrait photos that have a creamy bokeh effect and natural colors.

To complement its portrait photography capabilities, the OPPO Find X8 also has a useful Lightning Snap feature. With this, you can press and hold to capture up to seven frames per second. With this, you can get creative and shoot some dynamic portrait photos.
