Cells at Work live-action movie coming to cinemas in the Philippines this January

Cells at Work is heading to the big screen in the PH!

Following its theatrical release in Japan last month, it was revealed recently that the Cells at Work live-action movie will be released in cinemas in the Philippines soon.

The film’s upcoming theatrical release was revealed by the Viewers’ Choice Philippines Facebook page (via Japanese Entertainment Hub). There, it was confirmed that the Cells at Work movie will be released in the Philippines on January 29, 2025.

As with many Japanese live-action and anime films, this movie will be released exclusively at SM Cinemas. For now, there’s no word on how many theaters the film will be screened in, though we’re hoping that it gets a wide release. After all, the original Cells at Work anime was a huge hit when it came out a few years ago, not to mention that this live-action movie also did well at the box office in Japan.

This film stars Mei Nagano as AE3803 (aka Red Blood Cell) and Takeru Satoh as U-1146 (aka White Blood Cell). Its story should be similar to the anime series’ first season, though there are some differences. Specifically, this movie also puts the spotlight the human where the film’s events take place.

The movie’s premise is described as:

The smallest protagonist in film history – a human cell!

There are a staggering 37 trillion cells in the human body.

Red blood cells that carry oxygen, white blood cells that fight bacteria, and countless other cells work tirelessly day and night to protect your health and life.

High school student Niko (Mana ASHIDA) lives with her father, Shigeru (Sadao ABE).

Because of Niko’s diligent nature and her healthy lifestyle, the cells inside her body are always working joyfully.

Meanwhile, inside Shigeru’s body, the cells are always complaining, exhausted from the brutal working environment, as he leads an irregular and unhealthy life.

On the outside they may look like a happy father and daughter, but on the inside their bodily environments couldn’t be more different.

As their lively days go on, pathogens start to sneak up on their bodies…

The most epic battle in the history of human cells, with the future of Niko and Shigeru at stake, is about to begin!

While there’s no official Philippines cinema list yet for the Cells at Work live-action movie, we expect to get more info in the coming weeks.
