For those who missed its initial reveal, DOOM: The Dark Ages is the latest entry in id Software’s legendary first-person shooter series. While it’s a follow-up to DOOM: Eternal, it’s not a sequel. Instead, it’s a prequel that’s set before the events of DOOM (2016) and Eternal.
As shows in the gameplay deep dive, The Dark Ages will have a wildly different gameplay style compared to Eternal. While the 2020 series entry was a fast-paced shooter with lots of , The Dark Ages has a more tank-like player character, meaning there’s more of a focus on strafing and standing ground in combat encounters.
Aside from the gameplay showcase, The Dark Ages is also still coming out on PlayStation. This is great news for PS5 players, though not that surprising given Xbox’s current strategy.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is coming to Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on May 15, 2025.
