Having a Horizon Zero Dawn, Helldivers 2, and Ghost of Tsushima adaptation in an entirely different media form feels surreal. If you’re someone who can’t get enough of these games, the next few years are going to be really exciting.

Sony kicked off CES 2025 with a bang, revealing an exciting slate of adaptations for some of PlayStation’s most iconic titles. During their press conference, PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures announced early development of Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2 films, and a Ghost of Tsushima anime adaption that’s set to premiere on Crunchyroll in 2027.

Horizon Zero Dawn heads to the big screen

The critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn, developed by Guerrilla Games in 2017, is finally making its way to the big screen. Known for its incredible visuals and dense narrative, the game follows Aloy, a hunter navigating a post-apocalyptic world overrun by mechanical creatures resembling animals and dinosaurs.

Details about the cast, director, or release date remain under wraps, but the mere prospect of seeing Horizon Zero Dawn on the big screen is enough to ignite excitement among all of us.

Helldivers 2 goes cinematic

Also in early development is a film adaptation of Helldivers 2, one of 2024’s most surprising hits. This action-packed multiplayer title pits players against relentless waves of aliens and robots in their quest to protect Super Earth.

Renowned for its highly dynamic gameplay and immersive soundtrack, Helldivers 2 has carved a niche as one of the most engaging co-op experiences in recent years. While specific details about the adaptation are sparse, we’re hoping that the film will capture the game’s high stakes combat and overwhelming sense of camaraderie.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime slated for 2027

In a move that underscores Sony’s commitment to expanding PlayStation’s reach in different mediums, an anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is also in the works. Scheduled to debut exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027, the series will focus on the supernatural, multiplayer mode of the original game.

Takanobu Mizuno, known for directing The Duel in Star Wars: Visions, will helm the project at Kamikaze Douga, with Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero) handling story composition. Aniplex will co-produce the series, and Sony Music will contribute to the soundtrack.

The Horizon Zero Dawn, Helldivers 2 films, and Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation announcements marks Sony’s continued push to bring its gaming IPs to other entertainment platforms. Following the success of The Last of Us adaptation on HBO and Uncharted on the big screen, these new projects aim to further cement PlayStation’s legacy as a multimedia powerhouse.
