Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom anime movie to release in the Philippines tomorrow
The Overlord movie is finally coming to the big screen in the Philippines!
It has been years since the fourth season, and finally, Filipino fans can soon watch Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom which is coming to cinemas in the Philippines tomorrow, January 22.
The film was initially released in Japan back in September 2024. This was followed by a US release on November 8. The PH release took a bit longer, but at least Pinoy fans can finally get to watch it on the big screen.
While Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is set for a general release in the Philippines tomorrow, it will be an SM Cinemas exclusive. Tomorrow also isn’t the first actual screening for the film in the country. That’s because the distributor ODEX Philippines held an early fan screening on January 18 at SM Megamall.
This anime movie isn’t exactly a sequel to Overlord’s fourth season, nor is it a non-canon story (which is the case with other anime movies). Instead, this film adapts volumes 12 and 13 of the light novel, meaning it takes place between episodes 7 and 8 of season 4.
Given that it’s not a proper follow-up, here’s hoping that we’ll eventually see Ainz and the rest of his Guardians in a fifth season. For now though, we’ll have to wait and see if it gets renewed.
As for the film, there’s no word on how long it will be screened in SM Cinemas. Based on anime screenings in recent years though, we expect to see the film be available for around a week or so, depending on the demand.
