OPPO joins top 5 in latest Canalys market research report

This just in, OPPO has managed to secure its position as one of the world’s top five smartphone manufacturers in 2024. According to the latest Canalys market research report, the company, including OnePlus, has demonstrated steady growth with a 3% year-over-year increase, shipping 103.6 million units globally.

The achievement comes during a year of significant recovery for the smartphone industry, which saw overall global shipments grow by 7% to reach 1.22 billion units. This marked a welcome return to growth following the release of some heavy hitters towards the end of the year–namely their flagship OPPO Find X8.

While OPPO rounded out the top five, the competitive landscape remained fierce at the summit. Apple maintained its leadership position for the second consecutive year, shipping 225.9 million units despite a slight 1% decline. Samsung closely followed in second place with 222.9 million units, also experiencing a 1% decrease. Xiaomi secured the third position with impressive 15% growth, shipping 168.6 million units, while TRANSSION claimed the fourth spot with 106.7 million units.

“2024 has been a comeback year for the smartphone industry, delivering the highest annual global shipment volume post-pandemic,” noted Runar Bjørhovde, Analyst at Canalys. The research highlighted strong demand in the mass-market segment, driven by consumers replacing phones purchased during the pandemic and channel replenishments.

Looking ahead to 2025, analysts predict challenging market conditions as growth in emerging markets shows signs of slowing. Certain brands, OPPO included, will need to navigate economic fluctuations, potential US tariffs, and various compliance requirements while balancing short-term performance with long-term investments.
