As everyone eagerly anticipates GTA 6, Rockstar released a free update for GTA V on PC, adding features originally exclusive to the PS5/Series X|S versions.

Details about the new update were shared on the official Rockstar Games website. There, it was confirmed that the highlight of the new update is the addition of ray tracing features for the PC version, including ambient occlusion, global illumination, and ray-traced shadows plus reflections. As some of these additions are PC-only, the new update makes the PC version perhaps the definitive edition of GTA V.

What’s more, the update also adds support for AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS, with Frame Generation support to come at a future date. The update also brings faster load times using SSD and DirectStorage on supported devices, plus it adds DualSense controller support, including the adaptive triggers function.

Most of these additions have major benefits for users with powerful PCs, but those with more modest rigs won’t need to worry as the previous version of GTA V (called GTA V Legacy) is still available on the launcher. Note that players on the Legacy version won’t be able to play with those on the newer version. For those who make the switch though, Story Mode progress is transferrable to the new version.

Here are the updates system requirements for the major GTA V update on PC:

Along with the new features, the update also adds plenty of new GTA Online content, including a range of new vehicles such as the Pegassi Weaponized Ignus and Coil Cyclone II supercars, the Karin S95 sports car, and more.

While the new GTA update is live, fans are still eagerly awaiting more info on GTA VI. So far, the game is still set to be released later this year, though we’ll have to wait for an update from Rockstar which will hopefully come soon.
