During the recent Snapdragon X Series SEA Summit, Qualcomm VP of Product Management Nitin Kumar shared in a media interview session that he believes Qualcomm is “going to lead much faster on the innovation front” than Intel when it comes to laptop processors.

The event began with a series of presentations, though the second half of it featured moderated media interviews. During the session for Philippine media that we attended, Kumar was asked by our friends from Unbox about their push into Southeast Asia, especially given Intel’s recent struggles.

Regarding this, Kumar said that while Intel has built a legacy in the PC space, he believes Qualcomm is going to lead much faster when it comes to innovation.

“[Intel] has been an incumbent in this space for over 30 years, and they’ve built a legacy,” said Kumar. “However, I believe that on the innovation front, we’re going to lead much faster. We’re driving rapid innovation that will help with adoption and strengthen our messaging to consumers. Snapdragon is an incredibly powerful brand in mobile, and it gives us the leverage and the right to extend that brand into a new vertical—the PC market.”

While Kumar didn’t exactly delve deep into specific innovations in the pipeline for the Snapdragon X family, he did affirm Qualcomm’s continued push, especially in SEA. Kumar’s words on the matter are:

“Specifically, for the Southeast Asia market, we recognize its significance in helping us grow within the Windows ecosystem. This event is a prime example of our commitment. We understand the market and its structure, and we are keen to invest in it. Hosting this event here demonstrates our dedication. We’re launching Snapdragon X in the South Asia market, including the Philippines, to drive the message, raise awareness, and encourage behavior change. We want to showcase that there’s a better experience available in the PC ecosystem—delivering superior performance, breathing new life into devices, and advancing on-device AI capabilities.

We will continue to invest in the region to ensure this message reaches a broader set of countries, including the Philippines. Our commitment does not stop here—this is just one of many events we will host to sustain this momentum. We remain dedicated to advancing this effort, and I hope you can help us amplify this message through your readers, viewers, publications, or media channels.”

It’s important to note that the recent event was made to highlight the new Snapdragon X along with the previous Plus and Elite models to various SEA press, and as such, it wasn’t a full-on technical deep dive. Still, there were some interesting numbers shown when it comes to battery life and benchmarks, though of course, it’s important to take these with a grain of salt.

Even though the “innovation” that Qualcomm will bring was a bit vague, it’s clear based on the recent showcase that Qualcomm is continuing to push strongly into the PC market. There is a lot of potential in their ARM processor lineup for laptops, though to get more widespread adoption, app compatibility is a key point to address.
