Death Stranding records over 20 million players around the world
Impressive numbers given Death Stranding's unique gameplay and concept.

Kojima Productions recently announced that Death Stranding has surpassed 20 million players on all platforms.
The official announcement by Kojima Production mentioned that the game “connected over 20 million porters across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox, iOS, and Amazon Luna. As such, this doesn’t mean the game has sold 20 million copies. Instead, it only confirms that 20 million players have played the game.
Given this, the game’s actual sales numbers should be below 20 million, especially considering that Death Stranding was released on the Epic Games Store for free a few years ago.
Still, this is an impressive feat, especially considering that Death Stranding is a major departure from Kojima’s stealth action roots. After all, Death Stranding’s core gameplay is making deliveries by traversing challenging environments.

Back in 2021, it was revealed that Death Stranding has sold 5 million copies on PC and PlayStation. Even before that though, Hideo Kojima himself confirmed that the game recouped its developments costs and has turned a profit even back in May 2020 (which was just half a year after its release).
Given the game’s success, it’s no surprise that Kojima Productions announced Death Stranding 2: On the Beach during The Game Awards 2022.
Finally, the wait won’t be too long now as Death Stranding 2 will be released on PS5 on June 26, 2025.
